Edina

My name is Edina and I had a dream that became true. Each new day is a new chance to change your life, to make new decisions which can take us far away from our dearest, from family, friends, and even from the city we are very attached to. For most of us, education is something very important, something we all strive to, and something that will be a part of us for the rest of our lives. Apart from that, for me sports – volleyball is also very important and without that my life would have a completely different sense. But, I also, like most of other people, sometimes set some goals for which I believe I will never accomplish, goals that are sometimes so close, and sometimes seem so far away and unobtainable.

One of such goals was to study in the US, but also to practice and improve my volleyball skills at the same time. In the beginning that was only my childhood dream, but which, as incredible as it is, started coming true. Persistence and hard work were some key reasons due to which today I am here – in the United States, in a little town called Little Rock, the place which has started to grow on me. I study at UALR, and I already played for this university one season. The conditions are very good, the school is well equipped, professors are always available if I need help, they understand my needs as athlete, and help  me to schedule my time with training hours and games which occupy my week. For the past season I received an award Freshmen of the Year which is one of the most important awards I received for all these years of playing volleyball, and I received it after voting of coaches of other teams.

Time passes very fast, and it feels like only yesterday when I was preparing for admission tests, practiced math for SAT and studied English, and was doing all other things that need to be done before departure. It was very difficult for me to separate from my family, but I knew that I will have a lot of obligations here waiting for me, studying, trainings, and that will help me to make a better future for myself.

I heard once something that became very close to my own motto: “’’ Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they can do. You can do as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve.”  Believe that you can do what you planned, and don’t give up on that, because even after the hardest rain there is a sun, and there will be a day when you will be able to reach the goal you set somewhere deep in your heart long time ago.
